Your test answers, email address and student ID number are critical for successful processing of your test data. Please insure that you properly complete the following actions.
1. TEST ANSWERS: Please print and keep a copy of your exam answers prior to their submission. You should maintain this information until you receive notice of your course completion. In the event your electronic exam submission is lost, you will have your answers and be able to resubmit your exam. In the event you do not successfully pass the exam you will be able to review your responses prior to resubmission.
2. EMAIL ADDRESS: If your email address is incorrect you will not receive course completion notification. Since these email notices are automatically generated from the database system at the time your test is processed we cannot reproduce undeliverable notifications. Please be sure to add Independent.Study@dhs.gov to your Friendly Email / Approved Senders list to ensure you receive a completion confirmation email on you exam submission. This action is especially important if you use providers such as AOL, Yahoo, EarthLink, MSN, Hot Mail, or Roadrunner, as your email provider and you use email filters.
3. STUDENT ID NUMBER: Your Social Security Number is used as your student identification number. This data is encrypted at the time it is entered on the form prior to transmission. It is maintained in a secure government database and not distributed to any other source. If you do not supply a Social Security Number (SSN), your test will not be processed. If you want this office to assign your account an alternate student ID number, you must mail or fax a photocopy of your voter registration card, U.S. passport or birth certificate to the Independent Study Program office and wait to receive your student ID number before you submit your exam. You will then be able to use this nine-digit number in lieu of your SSN. Please be aware that this action can take several weeks.
